Former EER Systems and L-3 Communications president Dr. Jai N. Gupta was instrumental in helping these companies raise their profitability. Also a supporter of the Durga Temple of Virginia, Dr. Jai N. Gupta has made giving back to his community a priority.
When the Hindu community in the Fairfax, Virginia, area decided to build a temple, community members immediately started the planning process. It took quite a bit of hard work to come up with the details of mission statements, designs, nonprofit status, zoning, and other necessary steps to get the project started. The next step was to find financing. In addition to securing bank loans, project leaders received financial backing from Dr. Gupta, who guaranteed $250,000 as a safety net for any possible shortfall that might occur.
In 1996, the groundbreaking ceremony was held, and the temple was opened in 1999 with the final construction of the dome completed in 2006. Today, the temple provides a place for introspection and the continuation of cultural traditions for the local Hindu community.
